Qualifying Question

Welcome to the qualifying period for our first official episode of Hot Dice. Some notes you should know going in...

\ Whether or not you participated at any point in time during the pilot -- one of the two main games or an audience game -- you're eligible to qualify in this main game.

\ During the pilot episode, we slightly revised the rules. Please visit www.dougmorris.net/dice if you haven't already to familiarize yourself with said rules.

\ Going forward, we plan for not one but two audience games in an episode. We really want to spread the virtual wealth.

Now it's on to qualifying. Given the quirks of the rules, the two players closest to the right answer, high or low, are assured of playing two main games. The question...

On November 6, 2010, at 5:00pm Central, we watched a GSN rerun of "Family Feud". In Fast Money, two members of the winning family were asked to identify "a word or phrase that starts with 'Bermuda'." Out of 100 people surveyed who were asked the same question, how many in the polling group gave the number one answer of "Bermuda Triangle"?

(time passes)

And that's time. First and foremost, here's hoping those affected by Irene are well. If you're among the closest to the right answer to this question and are unavailable due to the storm's aftermath, we can hold a place for you once another player is eliminated due to two losses.

That said, here's our qualifying answer.

(ding)

The survey said -- 48. Who's the closest?

Eddie Timanus	44

Only off by 4, it's Eddie Timanus. Next closest?

Shawn Wells	53

It's Shawn. Thanks to all for another great turnout. Can't wait to get this show on the road.

Voice guy: Now stay tuned for the premiere of Hot Dice -- only VBS.

======================================================================

Scarlett: It pays to be lucky and also be precise --
if you want to win big -- here on Hot Dice.

Scarlett: From CDM Enterprises, a division of Trax Productions, here's your host for Hot Dice, Doug Morris.

(audience cheers)

Doug: I thank you, Scarlett Gray. Helloooooooo, everybody. Welcome to our debut episode of Hot Dice. (more cheers) Yes, we're very excited to bring you this new game to VBS. (picks up and holds dice) With the right combination of knowledge, skill and luck, one roll of these hot dice could lead to a payoff of CY$50,000.

(more cheers)

Doug: (places dice back on table) And if anyone can manage to put together a winning streak of four games, he or she will have a chance at the Mega Roll. As the title implies, that roll could result in a payoff of up to CY$1,000,000.

(more cheers)

Doug: Plus the audience gets a chance to roll for prizes and big payoffs. We'll get to that later. First, I have to tell you -- (looks around set) -- what a concept -- an endless celebration of Mardi Gras.

(audience laughs and cheers)

Doug: And I'm also delighted to introduce our first two players.

Doug: Please join me in welcoming Eddie Timanus and Shawn Wells.

(audience cheers)

Doug: We'll chat before the start of our second game -- but let's start our first game.

A brief explanation of how we play Hot Dice. The object of the game is to win a toss-up question and build a pot of cyber-money by rolling the dice. After we play six rounds, we go to a catch-up round. The player who banks more cyber-money at the end of the catch-up round wins the game -- and goes to the Bonus Bonanza where a CY$50,000 payoff is waiting to be won.

(audience cheers)

Doug: So let's begin with our first toss-up question. A right answer means you get a free roll. If you buzz in and pick a wrong answer, your opponent gets to roll by default. Hands on the buzzers, please, and here's our first question.
