Episode 3 Game 1

Eddie: Lots of catching up to do and running out of rounds. Let's roll 'em...

(Eddie rolls)

Doug: Three and two bring up the pot to CY$1100. Roll again or bank the 1100?

Eddie: I know I can get some bigger numbers here. (claps dice)

(Eddie rolls)

Doug: Well, 4-3 is bigger than 3-2. Unfortunately, the dice total 7 for a bust.

Doug: Deo still leads 3100 to nothing. Round 5 starting with this question.

Angelina Jolie, Calista Flockhart or Drew Barrymore. Who adopted a baby named Liam?

(Deo buzzes in)

Doug: Deo.

Deo: Pass.

Doug: Uhhhh -- that wasn't a choice. (buzz buzz) How do we rule on this? (inaudible response from producer) Eddie wins the question by default? OK, fair enough. Calista Flockhart, by the way, adopted Liam. Eddie, another chance to get on the scoreboard.

(Eddie rolls)

Doug: Four and a one for CY$500. I have to ask -- roll again or bank the five bills?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Eddie: You do have to ask, but I'm sure you know the answer -- let's roll!

(Eddie rolls)

Doug: Woah. This could be a game-changer. Eddie, you rolled double fours. You may have CY$800 added to the pot -- or you may take whatever's hiding in the double four screen on the double decision board.

If you go to the board and there's cyber-money, we add that much instead of the 800. If there's a surprise, we follow the directions. There could be a bust there -- and if so, we start Round 6 the way we start Round 5 -- with you down 3100 to nothing.

What's your double decision?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Eddie: Be good to me, board.

Doug: He's going for it. Instead of adding CY$800 to the pot, what happens?

(ding) (audience groans)

Doug: We add CY$100 instead.

Doug: Pot goes up to CY$600. Let's give the board a shuffle.

(amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)

Doug: What'cha think? Bank 'em or roll 'em.

Eddie: Well, beats a bust. I think I'll give 'em another roll.

(Eddie rolls)

Doug: Ugh! Eddie. Another bust. The dice came up 4 and 3.

Well, Deo, you've been granted a reprieve from the governor on that one. Still 3100 to nothing in Deo's favor.

Unless Eddie banks exactly CY$3100 in this round, this will be the last question of the game -- and we'll go to a catch-up round to decide this critical game.

New York City, Los Angeles or Dallas. The first hospital for women opened in what city?

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: I'll say Dallas.

Doug: No it was New York City in 1855. Deo, you get the free roll.

(Deo rolls)

Doug: And it's a 1 and 4 for CY$500. Deo, no matter happens, Eddie will start us off in the catch-up round. Also, when that catch-up round, we shuffle in surprises such as "tie the leader" and extra rolls.

You could bank CY$500 right now -- and have Eddie try to overcome a CY$3600 deficit -- or try to put further distances between you and Eddie.

Deo: I'm going to roll.

(Deo rolls)

Doug: One and six busts you out of the round.

Doug: Well -- Deo still leads 3100 to nothing as we go to the catch-up round. Eddie, if I may borrow a football term, you're going for a hail Mary.

In the catch-up round, Eddie will get one roll of the dice since he's trailing. If necessary, Deo will roll the dice once.

We don't build a pot in this round. Whatever a player rolls, he automatically banks the value of the roll.

Obviously, a non-double will not help Eddie. Further, a roll of 7 does not pay.

Now, we shuffle the double decision board...

(amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)

Doug: ...and add in surprises that can make it possible for Eddie to win. Attached to each of two amounts is an extra roll of the dice. There's also a "tie the leader" surprise.

So anything can still happen. Eddie, the dice are yours. Anything short of a double makes Deo our winner.

(Eddie rolls)

Doug: Woah boy! This could be the start of a turnaround.

Now, Eddie, I would offer you a choice between banking CY$1200 or taking whatever's behind double 6 on the board. However, CY$1200 would not be enough to take the lead. So the rules say we have to go to the double decision board.

There could be "tie the leader". There could be cyber-money and an extra roll. What is waiting for Eddie in the double 6 screen?

(ding) (audience groans)

Doug: Fifty clams. I'm so sorry. Game goes to Deo.

(dings; audience applause)

Doug: Deo, congratulations. CY$3100 for you -- and a chance to win much more in the Bonus Bonanza. That will come up in a bit.

Eddie, you just ran into all sorts of tough luck in this game. The good news is you're sticking around. That "lose loss" surprise you found on an earlier show is coming in handy. You have one loss against you right now.

Remember -- two losses knock a player out of the main game competition. We'll be back rolling for big payoffs -- right after this.
