Qualifying Question

Our farewell to netgames tour continues with Hot Dice. For this episode...

\ Michael Clifford returns with total winnings of CY$3200.

\ Because this will be the last episode in this forum, we're playing only one main game. The winner of this game plays the Mega Roll for CY$1,000,000. The runner-up plays the Bonus Bonanza with three gold coins.

\ Because this will be the last episode in this forum, we're relaxing the waiting period. If you did not play a main game of Hot Dice in Episode 10, you're eligible to play.

...and now on to qualifying. The player closest to the right answer, high or low, plays against Michael.

I recently helped Greg "Greggo" Wicker with three anime-themed game shows at the first Mississippi Anime Invasion; held in mid-September of 2013, it was the first ever anime convention held in the Magnolia State. One of the games Greggo hosted was Anime Press Your Luck -- and time allowed for an audience game with three players.

In the audience game, Greggo spotted each player five spins. After each spin, Greggo offered the player in control a chance to spin again or stop (read: not pass remaining spins to an opponent). The player who ended the game with the highest score won a prize from Greggo's prize suitcase.

What was the winning score in this audience game? Please respond to the nearest yen. We'll tell you the correct answer is higher than ¥9000 -- but the winner's prize was worth less than ¥9000 (read: the highest scorer got "one pull" from the prize suitcase instead of over ¥9000 in prizes).

(time passes)

Ah, yes. Some memes will never go out of style. Let's see what the winning score was.

(ding)

Yeah, Player 1 evaded the whammies to the tune of ¥15,426. Player 3 was on the brink of whammying out -- but finished with ¥1500 after she hit three whammies. Who's the closest?

Dom Falance ¥13,800

It's Dom giving it a try -- after this.

Scarlett: This VBS finale of Hot Dice is a nod to a *series* finale
of another game show played at a dice table. According to rumor, it
host was tipsy at the time -- and tonight, we're recreating the
atmosphere.

All of us at CDM Enterprises and Trax Productions urge everyone not
to drink and overindulge.

======================================================================

Scarlett: The time we've spent here has been quite nice.
One more time on VBS, let's play Hot Dice.

Scarlett: From CDM Enterprises, a division of Trax Productions, here's your host for Hot Dice, Doug Morris.

(audience cheers as they give Doug a standing ovation)

Doug: To business, to business, to business. Hello and -- (burp) -- (audience laughs) -- ah, excuse me, welcome to Hot Dice.

(audience members take their seats)

Doug: You'll forgive me -- but I had to sample some of the wine our staff will be enjoying in the wrap party later tonight. (audience laughs) Uh, this is the game where one roll of these itty bitty dice could pay off a hunka hunka moolah. Let's welcome our players.

Doug: First, back with CY$3200 in casharoo is Michael Clifford, who loves to clap the dice together before rollin' those bones. Opposing him tonight is none other than Dom Falance, who wants to dominate this game.

(audience cheers)

Doug: OK, as you know, we're wrapping up our time here on VBS. So for this episode, we're just playin' one game. The runner-up will play the Bonus Bonanza with three, count 'em, three gold coins.

Then the winner takes on the Mega Roll for CY$1,000,000.

(audience cheers)

Doug: And to make things interesting, no matter which bonus game you play, we'll make sure you don't leave that game empty-handed. Further, we're going to make sure you don't leave the main game empty-handed either.

(ding)

Doug: We'll seed each of your banks with 500 cyber-clams. Bartender, just add it to my tab.

(audience laughs)

Doug: This much hasn't changed. We start each round starts with a toss-up question -- provided I don't toss my cookies after so much drinking. (audience laughs) The winner of the question will then have the right to build up a pot of cyber-money. After six rounds, we play a catch-up round. The player who banks more cyber-money at the end of the game is our final winner here on VBS.

Sit back, relax, have some fun. Here's the first question.
