Audience Game

All right, time for an audience game -- and then another important game with Eddie and Deo. To our main game players, we respectfully ask you sit out this qualifying question for the audience game.

The player closest to the right answer, high or low, gets to play Math Class for a possible CY$66,500. Since we're not going to have main game qualifying in this episode, why not give an audience player a shot at winning big?

But, in order to win big, you've got to get by this question.

On March 20, 2010, at 8:30am Central, we watched a GSN rerun of "Whammy!: The All New Press Your Luck". This episode originally aired during its first season on the network. When the first round ended, the player in first place froze with how much in cash and prizes?

(To clarify, the first round did not end in a scoreless three-way tie. Given the rules, please make sure your response is higher than $1000.)

(time passes)

And that's time. Good number of you were close.

(ding)

High scorer after one round froze with $3330. Who's the closest?

Tyrone Allen	$3050

It's Tyrone. You're chance to win big on Hot Dice -- next.

(audience cheers)

Scarlett: Tyrone Allen, come on up. It's your chance to win big on Hot Dice.

(Tyrone runs up to the dice table to meet Doug; they shake hands)

Doug: Thank you, Scarlett and welcome, Tyrone, to Math Class. Yes, class is now in session with as many as two lessons. The first of which is place value.

We are going to fill in a four-digit amount of cyber-money. I say *we* because we'll spot you a zero in the ones place and a five in the tens place.

(ding)

Doug: See there, who else gives you 50 buckos just for showing up to class?

(a few laughs from the crowd)

Doug: The remaining digits you are going to fill with two rolls of a dice cube. Whatever number comes up on your first roll, we fill that in the hundreds place. The next roll is for the thousands place.

If you roll sixes both times, you'll have CY$6650. (audience cheers) Regardless, you'll have a chance to win more in the next lesson if you wish to go that far.

Right now, please go ahead and roll for a number for the hundreds place.

(Tyrone rolls)

(audience applause)

Doug: And it's a 4 for CY$400 more.

(ding)

Doug: Next roll is for thousands. Now's a good time for a 6.

(Tyrone rolls)

(audience cheers)

Doug: Next best thing -- a 5. CY$5450 already.

(ding)

Doug: Time now for our next lesson -- multiplication and division. May we have the numbers, please.

(ding)

Doug: Tyrone, behind these eight numbers we have multiplication and division signs. Four of them multiplication signs, four others division signs.

If you want to stop now and keep your CY$5450, that's fine. But if you want to advance further in this lesson, just pick a number.

If you find a division sign, your winnings are automatically divided by ten -- meaning you leave with just CY$545. However, if you find a multiplication sign, you'll have a *chance* to multiply your winnings by as much as ten -- meaning a possible CY$54,500.

What's your pleasure -- quit while you're ahead -- or try to multiply your winnings by ten?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Tyrone: I'm gonna take my chances, Doug, and take number 4.

(audience cheers)

Doug: All right, if there's a multiplication sign behind 4, you'll roll one more time. If you roll a number higher than 1, your CY$5450 will be multiplied by the number you rolled. However, if you roll a 1, we'll multiply your winnings by ten.

(more cheers)

Doug: But if there's a division sign, just 500 and change and that's all.

(strike buzzer; audience groans; BB87 loss cue)

Doug: Division sign. Sorry about that. Please reveal the rest of the board.

Doug: Number 2, 5, 7 or 8 would've worked. Well, that completes Math Class. Tyrone, you leave our dice table with CY$545 and our thanks for playing. Another crucial main game with Eddie and Deo -- after this.
